AFRICA-USA TOURISM PROMOTION

Travel agents and tour operators who specialise in the marketing of African tourism have been invited to attend the fourth annual US-Africa Travel and Tourism Industry meeting scheduled for Washington early next year.

This was revealed yesterday by ATA’s Executive Director Edward Bergman, who said the seminar was aimed to help the association members to develop meaningful and strategic contacts in order to pursue partnering opportunities that promote tourism to the continent.

The event will be hosted by ATA with the support of Travel and Adventure Show based in the US, he said, noting that the firm had been the society’s major partner on this event for several years now.

“Working with the Travel and Adventure Show allows ATA to bring added benefits to members and seminar participants as well as provide the opportunity for many additional travel professionals to attend and take advantage of the 2011 conference,” he stated.

According to Bergman, ATA conference participants will receive a complimentary ticket to the Expo and are encouraged to take advantage of the synergy with it and exhibit at the show at special reduced ATA member rates. The show attracts high-value consumers from the DC area who are ready-to-book African vacations.
Also ATA along with the show’s organizers allow attendees to network with travel industry professionals from across North America as well as Africa and promote directly to consumers at the travel Expo the following two days immediately after the conference.

“Our consumer travel attendees throughout the United States have consistently ranked Africa as one of the top destinations of interest,” said Jim Forberg, COO of Unicomm, LLC.

“Our long term partnership with ATA has afforded an opportunity to not only showcase Africa tour operators, but also to provide valuable information to travel agents and consumers alike.”

Attendees to the 2011 conference include tourism experts and industry professionals from the US and Africa, particularly travel agents and tour operators, who market, sell and specialise in Africa, as well as tourism ministers, national tourism board heads, diplomatic community representatives, African Diaspora community leaders, and travel trade media. Faculty and students are also invited to attend the said event.
“Under the theme “Promoting Tourism to Africa through Partnership,” the conference will showcase industry and economic partnerships that allow for more effective travel promotions and programmes for African travel,” he said.

He said firms interested to sponsorship opportunities for the 2010 conference can contact ATA through info@africatravelassociation.org.
